The Equestrian Employers Association (EEA) is the organisation for you if you employ staff in the equestrian industry.

Some functionality of the website is not currently available due to technical difficulties. We're working on fixing the issue.

We understand the financial challenges employers face with the latest rise of the National Minimum Wage.

Belong to the EEA to protect yourself and your business. Scroll down to discover how.

Are you compliant? Protect yourself.

The first step to compliance is identifying which of your staff are moving onto each new rate and which are also changing rates during the year. Set reminders for these.

Update your payroll in time and communicate changes to your staff. Keeping accurate records of the hours your staff work is really important for ensuring compliance as these would be asked for in any HMRC investigation.

Could you save time and money by moving to the EEA Payroll and Pension ? From as little as £21 - £36 per month you can outsource your entire payroll.

Anyone who is an employee or worker must be paid the National Minimum Wage (NMW).

This includes both the hours stated in their contract of employment and any overtime worked.

Failure to do so may result in an underpayment of the NMW.

Get it right, watch our webinars

If you identify a NMW underpayment then you must inform your employee and put it right straight away. Penalties for incorrect payment can include:

  • HMRC issuing a notice to pay money owed, going back a maximum of 6 years.
  • A 200% fine of the total under payment for all workers. Maximum penalty is £20,000 per worker.
  • Legal action including criminal legal proceedings.
  • Your business may be publicly named on the Name List.

Join the EEA. We have loads of information and resources to support you with the NMW, including our NMW Guide and HMRC Webinars.

Contact the HMRC: If you identify an underpayment and are unsure what to do next you can contact the HMRC. They will not issue penalties to employers who come forward.

Contact the EEA legal helpline: If you have concerns about underpayments, deductions, or have been threatened with court action then the EEA free legal helpline is there to support you.

"We are proud to be a Good Employment Ambassador. Our yard is a grass roots yard, as such we are setting a foundation for potential equestrians of the future. By setting a good example we show young people that the equestrian industry is a good and safe place to work."
