Check your mental health
When it comes to our physical health, we generally know when we need to see a doctor, go to A&E, get some self-medication from the chemist or take a few days off.
When it comes to our mental health, recognising, or admitting we’re not 100% or ‘not ourselves’ isn’t always that easy. When we realise or admit we need some extra TLC or support, what do we do then?
Sometimes we might feel or sense we are different to our normal, although unable to pinpoint why exactly. For example, “I should school Jasper today, but I really can’t face it after yesterday”, when you’re usually unperturbed by setbacks). Or, “Why is one of my groom’s behaviour really bugging me today?”. Is this simply tiredness, or is there more to it?
Another time, we might be unsure whether what we are thinking, feeling, experiencing is ‘normal’, especially if we don’t talk about it. Eg. “I think one of my grooms maybe struggling on a personal level, but is it normal to feel so anxious about speaking to them?”, or “Is it normal to feel this overwhelmed running a yard?”.
