Equestrian leaders champion Good Employment
22nd November 2024
As Good Employment Week draws to a close, we’re thrilled that this year’s campaign has garnered widespread support from influential voices across the equestrian world.
Good Employment Week is about promoting positive employment practices across the equine industry. It has sparked important conversations about valuing and supporting the workforce that forms the backbone of our sport.
Leaders from across the equestrian industry voiced their support for Good Employment:
|
“Good employment practices are the cornerstone of any successful workplace. Adhering to these practices ensures compliance with industry standards and in the equine sector also enhances the overall welfare of horses. By prioritising good employment with our employers, we create a sustainable environment where people and animals can thrive.”
Brian Edwards, Managing Director, Haddon Training

Throughout the week, employers and employees in all equestrian sectors have engaged with the campaign, sharing success stories, and celebrating the importance of Good Employment, including fair treatment, professional development, and workplace wellbeing.
Big names in the industry have rallied behind the EEA's mission, underscoring its importance.
|
“Employees are our greatest asset and must be respected, valued, and appreciated – none of us would compromise on equine welfare and wellbeing, and our staff should be no different. Good employment practices and a positive work environment are imperative to any successful enterprise. No matter how large or small your business, employees must be your priority.”
Jim Eyre, CEO, British Equestrian

Good Employment Week highlights that Good Employment practices don’t just benefit staff but are instrumental in ensuring the growth and reputation of the equine industry.
This week’s campaign has also showcased the positive impact of championing employment standards in attracting new talent to the equestrian world.
|
“At British Dressage, we believe that a positive employment experience is essential to attract the highest calibre of individuals to work within the equine sector.
Good Employment practices, supported by quality training, education and development, are vital to retain the best staff, who are equipped with the right skills, knowledge and experience, to fulfil their roles to the best of their ability. Any business or organisation, no matter how big or small, is only as good as the staff that it employs.”
Jason Brautigam, CEO, British Dressage
|
Here at the EEA, we firmly believe that employers who demonstrate their commitment to their staff through fair wages, written contracts, and safe working environments are setting the gold standard for the industry.
|
“Good employment should be a basic fundamental for all businesses, not just in the equestrian sector. This is not only about following the law but also about instilling principles, underpinning standards and best practices across the sector that will ensure we prosper in an environment where people have equal access to quality work that is inclusive, fairly compensated, offers security and flexibility and cultivates an environment where health and wellbeing thrive for all.”
Lucy Barclay-Carr, CEO, Horse Scotland

As Good Employment week concludes, we’d like to extend our thanks to everyone who has supported this year’s campaign and give a nod to the 1,000+ equestrian businesses that are already members of the Equestrian Employers Association and have committed to making the equine industry a place of only Good Employment.
