Exciting opportunity to work for a young eventing team at Flora Young Eventing, as an equine groom apprentice.

You need to have a passion for horses, able to get the best from them and have a determination to excel at all you do.

Flora Young is a professional Event and Showjump rider based in Leicestershire. Currently competing at CCI-L 4* and 1M40, with 2019 highlights including 4th place at the Festival of British Eventing at Gatcombe Park in the Advanced. Flora has worked with horses full time since she was 16, firstly with former Olympic Eventer Tiny Clapham, and then with International dressage judge Andrew Fletcher.

Currently, Flora is mentored by former Olympic Show jumper Malcom Pyrah and his wife Judy, for whom she also successfully produces and competes young horses, notable successes last season (2019) being Miss Moneypenny and Its Bueno. Flora is also trained by former Olympic Eventer and Badminton winner Richard Walker. Flora recognised at an early age that she wished to pursue a career in the sport of eventing and Showjumping, a path that would combine her talent and passion. Fully aware of the challenges that such a decision raises, she has worked diligently to establish a foothold in these highly competitive fields. Flora’s challenge is to bring on her exciting young horses and add to her team in order to establish a strong foundation for a successful and competitive career at the highest levels of the sport.

Position includes all yard duties with an opportunity to ride if able!

General duties to include;

  • Mucking out
  • Turning out/bringing in
  • Tack cleaning
  • Tacking up
  • Feeding
  • Filling hay nets
  • Clipping/pulling/plaiting/trimming
  • Bathing
  • Rug changing
  • Schooling
  • Riding
  • First aid
  • Exercising horses from the ground (lunging, horse walker, long reining, pessoa training etc.)
  • Holding for vet/farrier/dentist
