Established in 1952, HorseWorld Trust is a registered charity based in Whitchurch, near Bristol, committed to rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing horses, ponies and donkeys in need. Our Welfare department provides a home to all our new arrivals, including sick, neglected and traumatised horses and ponies. We have a team of trained staff committed to their care and rehabilitation and eventual re-homing. HorseWorld also runs a ground-breaking educational programme called Discovery which supports emotional growth and learning in young people through hands-on experience with our rescued horses, ponies and donkeys. The Welfare Yard Supervisor will be responsible for the day-to-day care of horses, donkeys and mules in the Welfare Department. Supervising a team of grooms to deliver excellent equine welfare and work with other senior team members to contribute to the smooth operation of HorseWorld's Welfare Yard. The successful candidate will have the following: • In-depth knowledge of the day-to-day workings of a large-scale equine yard. • Excellent up to date knowledge of equine care. • Sound knowledge of health and safety. • Thorough understanding of traditional and alternative horsemanship techniques. • Experience of equine husbandry and rehabilitation methods/techniques for a range of physical and behavioural issues. • Experience of organising daily tasks and supervising people. • Ability to deal with a range of equine related issues such as diet requirements, behaviour, injuries and illnesses. • Multi-skilled in husbandry and rehabilitation techniques. • Excellent communication skills and ability to motivate, organise and support staff and volunteers. • Positive and mature approach while being able to adapt to changes. • Reliable and dedicated to HorseWorld and the role. • Ability to multi-task with strong organisational skills. • Ability to work using own initiative while understanding when to escalate issues. • Must have sound IT skills including Microsoft, Word, Outlook. • Full valid UK driving licence. This is a full-time role (35 hours per week), working 8.00am to 4.30pm, with a 30 minute unpaid rest break each day. Days to be worked on a rota determined by the Line Manager, including working alternate weekends and bank holidays as required. Additional out of hours work may also be required.
