After speaking with #supergrooms Tilly and Polly it is clear that working for Laura is awesome, but what is it like being the boss?
Laura has adopted the EEA Code of Good Employment, meaning she provides a legally compliant, professional, caring and a happy place for staff to work.
You can sign up too, take advantage of the EEA resources to help you be legal, pay correctly, offer good management and a safe workplace.
Find out more about the EEA Code of Good Employment and the Toolkit of creators for your Contract, Staff Handbook, Health & Safety Manual and Risk Assessment.
The EEA, in collaboration with the British Grooms Association caught up with Laura Collett to find out what being a good employer looks like.
HOW DO YOU ENSURE AN EXCELLENT WORKING ENVIRONMENT AT LAURA COLLETT EVENTING?
"When I am at home, I like to make everyone a cup of tea in the mornings and find out how everyone is doing. I also provide all the refreshments on the yard at my cost not theirs.
I always try to let staff members ride the horses that they like.
I feel it is really important that my staff have their lunch break every day and finish at 5pm (there are exceptions in the season!)
My mum is on the yard on Sundays and the team love it as she makes such wonderful breakfasts for everyone!
I’m very clear on yard routine with a diary and white boards for detail on feeding etc. I think this really helps everyone and causes less confusion on what I want and expect."
HOW DOES THE EEA SUPPORT YOU TO CREATE THAT EXCELLENT WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE GOOD EMPLOYMENT PRACTICES IN PLACE?
"By default, using the EEA resources means that we are a Good Employment Ambassador. It’s very important to have a working environment which cares for staff, provides a clear structure, treats everyone fairly and it’s exceptionally important to employ correctly."
HOW HAVE YOU CELEBRATED THE BADMINTON WIN WITH THE TEAM?
"I’ve taken the girls out for dinner a number of times since Badminton to celebrate and thank them for their commitment, support and hard work."
