The equestrian centre has 30 acres of grazing that is split into smaller paddocks and lots of beautiful hacking available.

The college has a range of horses to help build the riders skills and confidence depending on their level. Students ride regularly and have the opportunity to compete the college horses in a range of disciplines in students shows. We are also a BHS exam centre so can support you in taking these additional qualifications.

All students undertake yard duties which include normal horse care tasks such as feeding, mucking out, grooming and also clipping throughout the winter. As part of the duty team you will also have the opportunity to learn supervisory skills, getting you ready for a career with horses.

We often have competitions at weekends in our Equestrian Centre so students will also have the opportunity to get involved with these. You could learn to be a steward, work with a course builder or write for a dressage judge.

Students enjoy a varied curriculum designed in conjunction with equine employers. You’ll be learning from experienced and well qualified staff, who are there to ensure you reach your full potential. Our students have achieved 100% pass rate for three years in a row!

Our exceptional facilities include 4 arenas both indoor and outdoor, cross country course, stabling for over 70 horses, turnout and hacking. The courses on offer range from Level 1 to Masters level, as well as BHS short courses, with dedicated lecturers, coaches, instructors and technicians, which means our students learn in an environment dedicated to success at every level.

The University Centre Sparsholt offers a range of equine FdSc, BSc and Master’s Degree, all involved in innovative research including rider and equine performance, with excellent collaborative links to an ever expanding number of key industry stake holders.

We play host to regular show jumping and dressage events, and have a range of livery options available to both students and private clients.

By studying an equine course at Hadlow College, you can become part of an industry which, with approximately 900,000 horses and 2 million riders in the UK, constantly needs well trained and devoted individuals to give expert care and tuition.

Whilst studying at our main site in Hadlow, students are able to use the excellent facilities and resources which are expertly utilised in all aspects of the course. Practical resources include over sixty horses consisting of; young stock, a stallion, broodmares, schoolmasters and competition horses which allow students to progressively develop their skills through each level.

The experience of training with excellent resources, combined with high expectations, both in lessons and during practical duties, gives every student the best opportunity to achieve. Students have exceptional opportunity to gain genuine hands on practical experience as well as ride and compete quality horses.

They gain knowledge and develop their practical skills in horse husbandry, horse handling, grooming, application of tack and equipment, feeding and routine yard management. Students will also study horse behaviour and welfare, anatomy and learn how to work a horse correctly on the flat, if that option is chosen.

In addition to the development of vocational skills, students will develop transferable skills such as; team work, effective communication, presentation skills and problem solving.

Students benefit from field trips to a variety of events and significant equine establishments. In the past these have included; The New Forest, Windsor Horse Show and The King’s Troop. Opportunity is also given to students to compete and help at College run shows using our horses.

The undertaking of vocational qualifications alongside their course are encouraged and supported such as the BHS examinations which are highly recognised by industry.

Work experience is built into all courses (including weekends and holidays) to ensure students develop the necessary employability skills that the industry requires.

In our fully equipped classrooms, you’ll learn about horsemanship, business, management and the practical aspects of equine studies as well as learning about managing and maintaining an equine establishment. Not only that, but our facilities are extensive too.

Our fantastic equine centre is a British Horse Society Highly Commended Establishment and includes resources such as an indoor equine arena which has one of the largest indoor surfaces in the South East holding regular dressage, show jumping and showing events, an outdoor floodlit warm up arena and cross-country courses. Not forgetting our modern, purpose-built yard which also comes complete with stabling for over 40 horses!

A riding pathway will develop your riding on the flat and over fences, within our excellent riding facilities. Additionally, you will build your experience riding a wide range of horses from school masters to more advanced.

Our expert staff have extensive knowledge and experience of the equine industry and as part of your course you will get the opportunity to take part in exciting trips and visits as well as being able to complete valuable work experience within the industry. We maintain close links with industry including Wellington Riding, Laris Farm Equestrian Centre, Cowdray Polo Academy, and the British Horse Society.

We partner with Rein & Shine who are a BHS highly commended livery yard and riding school, with multiple arenas (including outdoor, indoor and grass surfaces), they strive to deliver high quality, professional riding instruction to our equine students. As a full-time student, two of your days at college every week will be spent at Rein & Shine, where you'll build skills and confidence in handling, grooming, tacking up and riding.

Alongside your practical learning, performing yard duties will give you the experience necessary for a career in the competitive and exciting equine industries.

Your hands-on skills will be supported with essential learning in areas including anatomy, physiology, stable yard and stud management, nutrition, animal behaviour and welfare.

The College holds strong links to local and national industry providers: each year our students undertake a residential trip at the Badminton Horse Trials, working alongside Kelvin Bywater to build the showjumping area.

As of 2022, Rein and Shine have installed the Racewood Eventing simulator – as a student you will have the opportunity to utilise this in your learning with the most up to date motion control technology, which will undoubtedly help you develop into a more balanced and effective rider. We pride ourselves on meeting the individual needs of every student by working to ensure that a range of personal, academic and employability skills are developed.

The Equestrian Centre at BCA has stabling for over 50 horses and is approved by the British Horse Society (BHS) as a ‘Where to Train’ centre up to BHSAI. We regular host BHS examinations up to Stage 3 and the Preliminary Teaching Test and encourage all our learners to develop their practical skills alongside their vocational qualification.

The horses are predominantly stabled and cared for on a working livery basis which enables students of every level to develop their practical skills under the supervision of experienced BHS qualified staff. The horses are selected to ensure that we develop the student’s skills in handling a range of horses in preparation for working within the industry.

Our facilities include a large indoor arena, two outdoor arenas, extensive grass rides, BE cross country course and a whole range of equipment used for practical sessions to allow students to develop the necessary skills associated with working in the equine industry. Regular on site competitions give students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience within a commercial setting.

The Equine department is an exciting and busy place to be! You will help with the foaling of our thoroughbred horses, learn how to ride a range of different horses and have lessons on groundwork skills. Visits to local equine and stud yards, along with trips to other colleges and universities,  will enhance your experience and knowledge of equine practices. 

In addition, our degree students' study at Oxford Brookes University and have access to the innovative facilities and resources that the Headington Campus has to offer including modern science laboratories and innovative learning spaces.

Moulton College runs a range of full- and part-time courses for post-16 and university-level equine students.

Diploma students can follow rehabilitation and therapy, jumping or dressage pathways.

We’ll give you real-world experience of dealing with customers in a commercial environment, preparing you fully for a career in yard management, equine rehabilitation or event management, or enabling you to acquire postgraduate qualifications in equine physiotherapy or nutrition.

Course manager for university-level qualifications is Harriet Martin, UKCC show jumping specialist and research partner of world-renowned equine physiologist Dr David Marlin.

Moulton’s equestrian centre has an up-to-date industry standard therapy suite with an aqua treadmill, a swimming lane, a cold water spa and a solarium, all under one roof – not to mention an on-site equine veterinary practice.

Our Pitsford site is an approved British Horse Society training and examination centre. We have stabling for up to 60 horses, a 60 x 40-metre indoor riding area with spectator seating and judges’ area, two side-by-side outdoor arenas (60 x 25 metres and 40 x 20 metres) and a schooling field for novice horses and riders, plus various hacking routes throughout the college’s 1,150 acre estate.

This scope makes Moulton a great host for affiliated British Dressage and British Show Jumping competitions, as well as many Riding Club events and unaffiliated competitions.

The college has its own established dressage and show jumping academy, and students compete in the events run at the college.

We are a British Horse Society Approved Training Centre, Riding Centre and Facility Centre and we run training and exams throughout the year.
