The Equestrian Employers Association (EEA) is the organisation for you if you employ staff in the equestrian industry.

Some functionality of the website is not currently available due to technical difficulties. We're working on fixing the issue.

Employment contract creator

The EEA Contract Creator is an easy to follow, five stage process, where you can select options and upload your own company logo to create a Written Statement of Employment Particulars, often referred to as a 'Written Contract'.

Benefits include:

  • Your employee's contracts will save to your EEA account and you can reproduce versions for new members of your team, as required.
  • The Contract Creator will give you the peace of mind that you are complying with legislation and that your contracts have the most up to date legal details, whilst also including equestrian specific options.
  • The Contract Creator is compliant with English, Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish law and includes the option to create a version for an Apprentice.

With EEA membership for just £49.50 per year you can use the EEA Contract Creator for free and create as many contracts as you require for your business.

How does it work?

Watch this short video to see how easy it is to create your bespoke written contracts.

The Facts

  1. What is a contract?

A contract of employment is an agreement which governs the employment relationship between an employer and employee. The requirements in this section also apply to ‘workers’, which is a wider category.

If you are not sure whether you are hiring an individual as an employee or as a worker you should check here

  2. When must I give it?

As of April 2020, it is a legal requirement to provide each employee with a ‘written statement of employment particulars’ (written contract) either on or before the start date of their employment.

  3. Can I write it myself?

Yes you can, however it is not advised. If things go wrong, you will need a document that protects you and your business.

A solicitor can create a bespoke version for you and your business at a cost, or you can use the EEA Contract Creator and create your own bespoke versions for all your employees and workers.

  4. Do I create a contract for a freelance groom?

Not an employment contract - or written statement of terms of employment.

A self-employed groom or freelancer is not employed by you and they are not therefore bound to any rights of employment. They will be running their own business and either give you their own client contract, or you could have a contract for services with them.

However, it is important that you do not create a situation of false self-employment by telling someone that they must be self-employed as the fines can be hefty.

It is important to understand employment status and to get it right.
